Pretty Feathers

New feathered dinosaur discovered.

Take this time to ponder the term "new". Dinosaurs went extinct 60-odd million years ago. This particular specimen is estimated to have lived in the Middle to Late Jurassic, not even the Cretaceous, and was found in sediments dated to around 168-152 million years old. The bbc article was posted 22 October 2008; it was researched and written at some point before that; the news release was written and publicized before *that*; the actual discovery of the fossil -- not to mention associated shipping, examining, dating, and what have you, before that.

Here, however, it's new.
